Iris Folding Valentine Card

This was my first time doing iris folding.

I think it turned out pretty good!

It looks very complicated, but it really is very easy!

You will need,

Three different 12 by 12 inch decorative papers.

Card stock.

Tape.

Pencil.

Ruler.

Scissors.

Craft knife.

Self-healing mat.

And the iris heart template,

Click on the heart and download image to your computer.  Print out the template.

Step one:  Cut out the iris heart template.

Step two:  Cut out a 10 inch by 5 inch piece of card stock.  Fold in half.

Step three:  On the inside of the card center the heart on one side. Do not glue or tape down. Make sure the point of the heart is facing away from the crease.  Trace the heart with a pencil.

Step four:  Using your craft knife cut out the heart.

Step five:  Cut each of your three decorative papers into 4 inch by 12 inch.                                                                                                                                 Step six:  Cut the 12 inch by 4 inch pieces into 4 inch by 3/4 inch strips.

Step seven:  On the outside of the card stock lightly tape the heart template into the window with the printed side facing inside the card.

Step eight:  Place three decorative strip around the template.  All the polka dot strips will go with the white of the template.  All the flower strips will go with the light gray. And all the swirly strips will go with the dark gray.

Step nine:  Turn over the swirly strip and line it up to the first dark gray line. Tape in place.  You may need to cut off the edges of the strips as you go along.

Step ten:  do the same thing with the flowers and the polka dots.

Continue to go around, lining up the strips to their next lines.

Do it until you have covered every line.

Step eleven:  Turn the card over and carefully remove the heart template.

Step twelve:  Decide what you want to do to cover the back.  You could place another piece of card stock over it or you could glue the back to the front, making a postcard type valentine.
